Familiarity is a cruel realization
That comes between the best of friends
When you come to know someone all too well
and no more secrets there are to tell.
Familiarity keeps you underestimated in a shroud of unbelief
Because after all, isn't he the carpenter's son
didn't we used to hold him on our knee?
Familiarity sets and the mystery is gone
No more really caring what's on my mind
Tired of hearing the same old song
Used to hearing that same old rhyme.
But what a surprise we end up being?
To those who yawn as we grow
Because from glory to glory
& the renewing of the mind
Me you will never truly know.
Tomorrow I will be different from today
& in a week you'll begin to wonder.
Though consistent in so many ways.
Who is this person who will not stay up under?
The stereotype, wisdom, & all your knowing
of statistics of how I should turn out.
Why won't she learn to submit?
Always catching me off guard & speaking out?
Get back in your cage little girl
I like things familiar
Get back in your cage woman!
Don't you know you're peculiar?
Familiarity is my enemy
Familiarity makes you blind to see
The gift & power of the Living God above
& His ability to transform with His true love.
