AS I SEEK

By Cherstin Jagger Mendez I seek within the ebb and flow, In every attempt for my heart to grow. I lean into the winds to see what they say. Hoping it’s secrets, it will give away. How do you live a life to the fullest? How do you push yourself beyond….? The lead weights on my feet telling me I can’t go, Due to my age or life, without much to show. For the potential within me fights every day to get out! For the voice in my heart says I can not do without … Without the land beneath my feet, Without the sound of the trees in the wind. Without the buds that bloom and tell me there’s hope, Without the love that flows from beyond my scope. Without the connection that reminds me that I’m alive, Without your heartbeat here by my side I seek again for what I cannot see. I seek again for what’s found inside of me. I seek again for the strength to persevere, As I walk among those that this world does fear …. DEDICATED TO TDCJ CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS

NOT FORSAKEN

Poem by Cherstin Jagger Mendez When light looms on a distant thought,  a part of you that was long forgot.  So far away are the memories still,  for today your shine has lost its fill.  Completely forgotten is the path once taken, For now each step is painfully forsaken .  Yet amidst the rubble that was once called life.  A flower does bloom through the rocks and strife.  Not easily found as it grows and blooms,  This rogue blossom pulls us from our tombs.  A hope that stirs through life awakened.  To the truth that YOU have not been forsaken.   Though a life you thought could no longer have value, Has bloomed again to show you He’s with you.  …….. There will always be hope,  For in your heart that Creator spoke.  He said He’s not finished with what He started,  He said in you is a treasure not departed.  There will once again be life unfettered,  and all that was lost will be untethered.  Set...

Robert Marriott Jagger - Say hi to my mom for me.

He died on March 1st. I was told about his death on the 6th by one of his former colleagues. He was an ambassador for Costa Rica in the Bahamas. His wife was concerned about his reputation if anyone were to find out that the ambassador had left behind a Costa Rican baby. I went my whole life being told my biological father was dead. Then ancestry.com told me differently. I was able to fly to costa rica and meet him once. After our meeting I was cut off by his wife. After several attempts to reach out to siblings for help, they decided it best to stay out of it. So I reached out to my father’s friends in hopes that they could persuade his wife to allow for communications again. My “coming out” was not well received by the family, but many good people that knew my father honored him by accepting me. I am grateful to them because they are the ones to let me know of his death. I am not sure why I stay surprised by the evil in this world. Goodness .. look at where I work. But hidden malice ...
