Manipulation 101

When someone tells you:

"I/We have prayed, and I/we heard the Lord say that this is His will for you..."
"See, we are more alike than we are different"
"to be honest with you..."
the repeated and continual use of your name during communication
Flattery with the intent to build you up falsely, butter you up, or soften you up.
"you deserve...."

Control words:
"you ALWAYS"
"you NEVER"
"you SHOULD"

Emotional Responses:
Guilt & Shame
Embarrassment
Inferiority
FEAR
Heightened sense of compassion
Heightened sense of self

Even when intentions are best, and the counsel given sounds "wise", be aware; if someone is using manipulative tactics he/she/they have a puppet master OTHER than the Holy Spirit.

Be AWARE!

The Parable of the Snake

Once upon a time there was a serpent who was badly injured in a fight with another animal. It managed to slither away to safety but would have surely died if a benevolent man had not seen it suffering by the side of the road. The goodly man carefully wrapped the snake up and took it to his house, where he bestowed the kindest and gentlest care on the snake until it was healed and could return to the wild.
