The 2 chore needs of the soul are Relationship and Revelation. The substitute for these needs are often found in Romance and Religion. Not that these are wrong in themselves, but should be kept in their place, not superseding our vertical connection to God.
So many are driven towards Romance and finding that special "someone" only to find disappointment and unfulfilled expectations. Likewise, many pursue religion as a means for insight or purpose; only to find a hollowness that is encompassed by a gilded cage of appearance and pretense. Once we realize that the substitutions are a farce, we often fall into a listless sense of fatalism. Life becomes "vanity, all is vanity". Just in order to continue to function, mediocrity settles in. A resignation occurs that says this is all there is and I will make the very best of it. At this point we BECOME what ever we place our affections toward. Whether it be workaholism, alcoholism, idolizing our children, gluttony, hypochondria, and many other addictions. .at this point the pursuit of Identity Reigns Over life.
But what is your identity? Despite what many believe your Ability does NOT determine your identity; your associations; how much money you have; your appearance.. none of these exhibit your true identity.
Only through TRUE relationship and revelation can your TRUE identity be found. So what better place to get our TRUE selves.. but through our creator.
Intimacy with God is where you get your identity. The presence of God in your life cultivates integrity and accountability. The presence of God reveals your purpose for living.
Integrity is responsibility, or the ability to RESPOND the way Jesus would respond; as is found in the fruit of the spirit. Accountability is the way you add things up. There is justice in the way you see things. A strong desire for balance. When we see the injustice of sickness, oppression, torment, depression, and bondage.. the gifts of the spirit stir inside of you and a desire for kingdom order will arise and manifest healing, hope, and freedom.
This is where an effective Christian Walk is found.
What is my biblical basis for this?
Matthew 7: 21-23
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you.[no relationship with Jesus] Away from me, you evildoers! [no revelation of God's Will for their life]'
