Picnic Lunch with Jesus

I brought my lunch today. Just left overs... Chicken Fettuccine and Spinach salad with Feta Cheese and Balsamic Dressing.. and Sun Chips, of course. After heating lunch and looking at the beautiful day outside, I decided it's time for a picnic; just me and God. We REALLY love picnics. I drove to a local park in a nice neighborhood by where I work. Sat "alone" out on the picnic bench, thanked the Father for my food and asked Him to bless it.. and then commenced to thanking him for His goodness and His provision and care for my family. I never take for granted how incredible it is that I am able to raise children with my income AND have all their spiritual, emotional and physical needs met; without a better half to help out. I KNOW it's ALL God and I give him ALL the Glory.

Then it came time to visit with Jesus. I find when I am alone with Him, I ask Him alot of questions. I remember Keith Miller talking about how all his hair floated up like having his finger in a light socket when the Presence of God came on him out in the parking lot of his work, while he was filling the oil up in his car.. of all times :). I told Jesus I would like for His Presence to mess my hair up one day.. That sounded really awesome.

We talked about what things are coming up. [I've deleted this part.. some things are just between us].

Then I asked Him what was taking so long with reconciling me and Grace. I told Him I really want to go to Nigel's meeting next month.. but I would like to have things reconciled before I just stomp on in the church unwelcome. I have a feeling I will have to go whenever and wherever He tells me whether I like it or not. Even if it makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. The only thing I get from Jesus when I talk about Grace is that He "has it and is taking care of it." Sometimes it makes me kind of scared for them when I hear Him say that. All I can say is, "yes, sir."

Of course, I had to talk about a ring. What does He want me to do with it? Chris Harvey said out of the blue Saturday night, "you know, you are allowed to keep some things.. you don't have to give everything away." I wonder if that was meant for me. I rarely keep anything. I love to give. I find excuses to give. I don't like being attached to objects; so those are usually the first to go. It really is amazing to me that I have held on to it for 20 years. I have not received anything clear about the ring yet. Usually when my person opinion is really strong... I have trouble deciphering what He is saying. ugh.

I also had to ask about my hippopotamus and snake dream. The last hippo dream I had, it was fighting a crocodile (I thought for sure it was going to lose, I was so upset about watching just one hippo fighting that huge croc alone.. with the other hippos totally indifferent or with that "better you than me" look on their faces) I know that the crocodile represented gossip.. because of all it's teeth. When I see people gossip.. all I see is teeth chattering. Not interested in the least. I know when you dream about teeth .. you are dreaming about things you say or being said about you. [If it's your teeth.. it's things you say.. if it's someone /or something else's teeth..it's things being said about you]

But this time 2 BIG snakes?? .. with their heads the size of my Mazda. They were brownish copper and appeared to be on a mission. [This snake has been in my dreams before. I've had it come up from behind me while I am driving a jeep and clamp on my vehicle. While I spin my tires to get out from its grip, it releases me and I fly off of a cliff into some rapids.. bad snake, very bad snake].

This time:
There is a house with a huge pond in front of it. Two Hippos reside in the pond. I yelled at the owner of the house to get inside... and immediately when she saw the snakes raced inside. The snakes slinked into the pond full of pomp and arrogance. Their noses in the air..and so FULL of themselves. It didn't take long and they learned to regret it. The hippos were not going to have any of it. The snakes were wriggling for their lives as the 2 hippos chomped and stomped. It was awesome. One was killed.. but the other got away. It slipped into a trail by the pond where it found the crocodile. It rested on the croc's back while the crocodile carried it out of harm's way. I think the crocodile had "been there and done that" and really sympathetically took the wounded snake deep down the trail, away from the water.

I cheered the Hippos.. and also took note that there were 2 fighting this time.. instead of one going solo. I was so happy to see my hippo found another of like mind. It's not good to fight alone.

So, I left my picnic wondering why I love hippos so much and when the snakes are going to show up. Time will tell. It always does. I know I will recognize them when I see them.. How could I miss those big noses in the air.. and ALL that stinken' pride.

Life is truly an adventure :D

The Parable of the Snake

Once upon a time there was a serpent who was badly injured in a fight with another animal. It managed to slither away to safety but would have surely died if a benevolent man had not seen it suffering by the side of the road. The goodly man carefully wrapped the snake up and took it to his house, where he bestowed the kindest and gentlest care on the snake until it was healed and could return to the wild. Just as the man was releasing the serpent back into the grass, the ungrateful snake turned and bit him on the hand. "What did you do that for?" cried the man, who knew that the bite of this particular snake was usually fatal. "Didn't I take care of you when no one else would?" The snake shrugged (no small feat for a snake!) and replied to the benevolent--and now doomed-- man, "What did you expect? You knew I was a snake when you picked me up." We certainly know without any question that they are snakes. Time will tell if the moral of the tale is appli...

Tough Mind and Tender Heart by Martin Luther King

SERMON: A Tough Mind And A Tender Heart, by Martin Luther King, Jr. Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. (Matthew 10:16) A French philosopher said, “No man is strong unless he bears within his character antitheses strongly marked.” The strong man holds in a living blend strongly marked opposites. Not ordinarily do men achieve this balance of opposites. The idealists are not usually realistic, and the realists are not usually idealistic. The militant are not generally known to be passive, nor the passive to be militant. Seldom are the humble self-assertive, or the self-assertive humble. But life at its best is a creative synthesis of opposites in fruitful harmony. The philosopher Hegel said that truth is found neither in the thesis nor the antithesis, but in an emergent synthesis that reconciles the two. Jesus recognized the need for blending opposites. He knew that his disciples would face a difficult and hostile world, where they would confront the recalcitrance of...

AS I SEEK

By Cherstin Jagger Mendez I seek within the ebb and flow, In every attempt for my heart to grow. I lean into the winds to see what they say. Hoping it’s secrets, it will give away. How do you live a life to the fullest? How do you push yourself beyond….? The lead weights on my feet telling me I can’t go, Due to my age or life, without much to show. For the potential within me fights every day to get out! For the voice in my heart says I can not do without … Without the land beneath my feet, Without the sound of the trees in the wind. Without the buds that bloom and tell me there’s hope, Without the love that flows from beyond my scope. Without the connection that reminds me that I’m alive, Without your heartbeat here by my side I seek again for what I cannot see. I seek again for what’s found inside of me. I seek again for the strength to persevere, As I walk among those that this world does fear …. DEDICATED TO TDCJ CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS
