Who is this who comes up from the wilderness
leaning upon her beloved?

Therefore, behold, I the Lord God
will hedge up her way with thorns;
and I will build a wall against her
that she shall not find her paths.

And she shall follow after her lovers
but she shall not overtake them;

inquiring for and requiring them
but shall not find them.

Let me go and return to my first husband,
for then was it better with me than now.

Therefore, behold, I will allure her
and bring her into the wilderness,
and I will speak tenderly and to her heart.

And I will betroth you to Me forever;
yes, I will betroth you to Me
in righteousness and justice,
in steadfast love, and in mercy.

I will even betroth you to Me
in stability and in faithfulness,
and you shall know and cherish the Lord.

The Lord your God is in the midst of you,
a Mighty One, a Savior Who saves!
He will rejoice over you with joy;
He will rest in silent satisfaction
and in His love He will be silent
and make no mention of past sins,
or even recall them;
He will exult over you with singing.

Set me like a seal upon your heart,
like a seal upon your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
jealousy is as hard and cruel as Sheol
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
a most vehement flame
the very flame of the Lord!
Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.

If a man would offer

The Parable of the Snake

Once upon a time there was a serpent who was badly injured in a fight with another animal. It managed to slither away to safety but would have surely died if a benevolent man had not seen it suffering by the side of the road. The goodly man carefully wrapped the snake up and took it to his house, where he bestowed the kindest and gentlest care on the snake until it was healed and could return to the wild.
